Forgotten Island: Not Just A Simple Animated Fairy Tale

The September 23, 2026 theatrical release of Forgotten Island proved that the film is not merely a visual spectacle, but a surprisingly deep look into isolation and courage. At Jiliace, we appreciate a narrative that hooks you instantly and offers more beneath the surface. When the trailers first appeared, the vibrant, bizarre creatures and unpredictable terrain initially masked the genuine emotional weight this film carries.

The true scope of the project became clear during its Hollywood premiere at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles. The event gathered a stellar voice cast, with Liza Soberano, H.E.R., Dave Franco, and Jo Koy walking the red carpet alongside directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado. To the cast and crew, this gathering represented the culmination of years spent refining a story that pushes past the boundaries of conventional animation.

Audiences quickly resonated with the film's unexpected emotional core. Rather than presenting a straightforward survival narrative, the island itself functions as a psychological mirror for the protagonist. As the character faces physical threats and unravels the location's mysteries, she is also forced into a quiet reflection of her own memories and sense of belonging. The film balances these heavy themes with the signature lighthearted humor DreamWorks is known for, preventing the pacing from ever feeling bogged down.

Box office numbers reflect this strong connection with viewers. The film grossed more than 97 million Philippine pesos during its opening weekend, holding the number one position at the Philippine box office for two consecutive weeks. A dedicated purple-carpet event in August 2026, hosted by Ai dela Cruz, had already set the stage for this massive local reception, further fueled by earlier promotional appearances by Liza Soberano and BINI at San Diego Comic-Con.
